New England Solar is a 936 MWdc (720 MWac) solar and battery project currently being built in stages near Uralla in the New South Wales (NSW) New England region. The project sits across a 2,000-hectare site of mostly cleared grazing land, traversed by an existing 330kV power line owned and operated by TransGrid. The 521 MWdc (400 MWac) first stage started generating clean, renewable electricity into NSW and Queensland in 2023. The construction for the second stage 416 MWdc (329 MWac) and the 200 MW/400 MWh (2-hour) battery storage is now underway. The New England BESS is being built through the support of the NSW Government’s Emerging Energy Program.
